European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan - A CCK Foundation Overseas Center (CCKF-ERCCT) at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
Tübingen University established a Chair of Greater China Studies in 2003, with a focus on both teaching and research on contemporary Taiwan. In 2008, in order to achieve the goal of establishing a more systematic approach to the development of Taiwan Studies in Europe, Tübingen University decided to establish the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT), which achieved a fine record of promoting Taiwan Studies and engaging in international exchanges with scholars and academic institutions in Taiwan.
In order to perpetuate the achievements of the ERCCT, the Foundation agreed to join forces with Tübingen University to establish a new European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan -- A CCK Foundation Overseas Center (CCKF-ERCCT), which was formally inaugurated in July 2014. Since then, the new center has maintained close contact with the Foundation’s other three overseas centers: The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation International Sinological Centre at Charles University (CCK-ISC), The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Inter-University Center for Sinology (CCK-IUC), and The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CCK-APC).
Through the years, the CCKF-ERCCT has worked to provide a platform for the interaction between faculty and students from Taiwan and European countries. Its activities include inviting scholars from Taiwan and Europe to give lectures, holding the Taiwan Colloquium for the benefit of both faculty and students, assisting students from Europe and Taiwan in applying for funding to visit the ERCCT, systematically collecting books and periodicals on contemporary Taiwan, and establishing a website to publicize its work (including an online newsletter). In addition, the ERCCT stages an annual film festival. The ERCCT’s future plans involve hiring more faculty in Taiwan Studies plus enhancing international exchange via staging workshops and conferences like the ERCCT Biennial Workshop on Contemporary Taiwan.
