Special Projects

During three decades of grant-making activities, the Foundation has operated two types of programs. The first, featuring grant and fellowship applications submitted on a regular basis, is based on the principles of rigorous peer review and respect for independent scholarship. Its main goal is to support pioneering research in the humanities and social sciences that can shed new light on Chinese culture and society, as well as encourage international cooperation and exchange. The second program, consisting of special project grants, is more strategic, proactive, and forward-looking in nature, representing the Foundation’s commitment to promote comprehensive and long-term projects covering key facets of academic development.

Special project grants can be divided into the following six categories:

1. Supporting the Foundation’s Overseas Centers in Chinese Studies and Taiwan Studies
2. Cooperating with leading scholarly associations worldwide
3. Funding large-scale projects to collect source materials and compile online databases
4. Promoting scholarly exchanges that enhance Taiwan’s status in the worldwide scholarly community
5. Implementing summer camps and other cooperative efforts proposed by the Foundation’s Cross-Strait Academic Exchange Planning Committee
6. Working with Taiwanese academic institutions to organize compelling and commemorative scholarly events
