Social Science Research Council (SSRC)'s InterAsia Program
The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, nonprofit international organization founded in 1923. Its mission is to nurture new generations of social scientists, foster innovative research, and mobilize necessary knowledge on important public issues by working with practitioners, policymakers, and academic researchers.
The SSRC’s InterAsia Program, launched in 2008, aims to shift conceptualizations of Asia by promoting collaborative research, scholarly networking and public policy connections. Its first conference on “Inter-Asian Connections”, organized in Dubai in 2008, brought together more than 150 scholars from across academic communities, disciplines and regional expertise. The Foundation has contributed funds in support of conferences held in 2010 (Singapore), 2012 (Hong Kong) and 2013 (Istanbul), in order to facilitate the intersection of research agendas and networking of individual scholars for developing new paradigms in Asian Studies. The SSRC is continuing to enhance its programs in East Asia and the Middle East, while also branching out towards Africa.
